Activities
A whole host of activities can be enjoyed nearby including golf, cycling, rafting, hiking, rice field walks, shopping, surfing at the nearby beaches, diving, snorkeling, spas, massages, a limitless choice of stylish restaurants, horse riding and much, much more. Imagine lazing on the sand enjoying a gentle breeze with the sound of waves breaking in the background. Watch a stunning sunset at Ku De Ta restaurant while sipping a martini, on the rocks at Echo Beach or from the famous Tanah Lot temple. Ubud, the cultural and artistic centre of Bali is only a 30 minute drive away boasting a wide range of activities, shopping, temples, art galleries and restaurants. Seminyak, with the buzz of Eat Street and a wide range of bars and nightclubs, is also just 30 minutes drive.
Golf
Just 15 minutes from Villa Burung Raja is the beautiful and challenging Nirwana Bali Golf Course. Designed by Greg Norman, the course is set on the cliffs overlooking Tanah Lot temple, a truly inspiring location.
Greg Norman says of the course that "while keeping this site's natural features, we have created some of the most dramatic holes in golf. The 7th hole is especially challenging, requiring the golfer to hit a middle iron from the cliff side tee across a piece of the ocean to a scenic and well-guarded green. Hole 13 will require all a golfer's skill and concentration as it plays along Indian Ocean cliff tops. Hole 14 is a dramatic par 3, with the ocean thundering below."
Culture
Bali is renowned for its beautiful culture. Villa Burung Raja is located in a quiet authentic Balinese village. Every day you can experience Balinese ceremonies and temple offerings, and just 30 minutes away is Ubud, the centre of culture in Bali.
Whether it is Galungan, a tooth filing ceremony, or honoring the god of knowledge, there is always something to celebrate in Bali. The Balinese New Year is celebrated at Nyepi, the day of silence. The evening before Nyepi sees the whole of Bali partying in the streets as they parade elaborate ogoh-ogoh's (papier mache characters that are larger than life). The following day the island becomes silent as everyone reflects on what the year has brought and what will come. Villagers dress in their finery for every wedding and funeral, decorating the streets with beautiful pengors and ribbons.
Ubud, just 30 minutes away, is the cultural centre of Bali. Artisans of stone, wood and sculpture can be seen together with hundreds of art galleries. If you enjoy dance, art and celebration, Bali provides a daily dose!
Surfing
If you are into surfing, the beaches of Canggu and Echo Beach are a short drive away. For those who would like to try surfing for the first time, the beaches near Seminyak are just 30 minutes drive.
Horse Riding
There are several excellent riding centres just a short drive away that offer classes for those interested in developing their skills or options of a beach or village ride.
Spas and Massage
A wide variety of spas and massage centres can be found just a short drive from the villa. If you prefer, you can choose to have a massage therapist come to your home and pamper you without even leaving the poolside!
Diving
Bali offers unspoilt reefs and wreck dives for the diving enthusiast. Pemuteran in the north-west has exquisite diving and snorkelling, while the seas off the east coast are excellent for wreck dives.
Restaurants
Bali is a dining paradise! Whether it is sophisticated world class restaurants like Matisse, Sarong or Mosaic, or the simpler warung, choices are plentiful.
Yoga
Bali is THE place for yoga! Whether you want to start from scratch, or are a seasoned pro, yoga studios, retreats and classes are all close by.
